Miss A 미스에이 Bad Girl, Good Girl 나쁜 여자, 좋은 여자

The Kpop group known as Miss A 미스에이 started out with a bit of turmoil. They were to debut as a five member group. One of the original girls, (Lim) left the group to join another group called Wonder Girls.  Two more then left, leaving only Wang Fei Fei  (Fei페이) and Meng Jia  (Jia지아) as the core. They were put together with Bae Su Ji  (Suzy수지) who was an online mall model and Lee Min Young (Min) who studied dance in America to complete the group as we now know it. They debuted in June of 2010 with “Bad Girl, Good Girl” 나쁜 여자, 좋은 여자. In the above picture (left to right) we have Jia then Min followed by Fei and finally the maknae Suzy.
The set for the video takes place in what appears to be a school for the arts, namely the dance studio. I see the studio as the formal creative dance type but they give us a quite different dance performance. I have to say it would be more of a provocative creative dance, but tastefully done. They show off their flexibility on a few occasions, maybe mocking their counterparts in dance. The costumes are of simple black dance tights and body suits. Again, they are body forming tight but still tasteful.
The song itself talks of a girl who dances like a Bad Girl but loves like a Good Girl. Hence, the lyric “you don’t know me”. Her portrayal of dance, the clothes and hair style projects a negative persona. While the real her is a loving person. Although, all we see is the Bad Girl. It speaks of the hypocrisy of our thoughts as we watch her dance. As if to say “Who’s the truly bad person, you or I”? It goes on to say, she is looking for a man who can deal with her love for dance and be a real man with his actions, not his words and cockiness.  I think it’s one of the most forward approaches to this theme “who’s the bad one”.
   Until next time,
